    Tinley Park, IL Real Estate

Tinley Park is one of the fastest growing suburbs south of Chicago with an estimated population of 56,831.  It has been published in Business Week as the best place to raise a family in 2009 and one of the 50 safest cities in America.

Settlement of the area began in the 1820’s by emigrants from the Eastern United States.  The village was originally established in 1853 as “Bremen”.  With the rapid expansion of the railraod and the village’s location being on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Line, it was only a matter of time before Bremen became so great that it’s name was changed to Tinley Park in honor of the village’s first railroad station agent, Samuel Tinley, Sr in 1890.

With the railroad came industry and commerce as factories such as Diamond Spiral Washing Machines Company began establishing themselves in Tinley Park in the early 1900’s.

Today, Tinley Park focuses on renovating its downtown historic district made up of it’s original 1892 boundaries.  Downtown renovations include the creation of a park near the Oak Park Ave Metra station, as well as a multimillion-dollar project known as the South Street Project creating more than 220 apartments and 40,000 SF of commercial retail space.

Tinley Park is also home to the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre (formerly knows as The World Music Theater, Tweeter Center, and First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre), an outdoor venue which seats 28,000.
